"Domain.Nation" is the debut of the Russian band Instant Suppression and I can say I'm instantly impressed. Classifying it Progressive Metal is a bit of an understatement as there are Gothenburg, Industrial styles blended very well into them. It's a pit pointless of me uploading it as the whole album is available for free download on the band's official site anyway, but I think they deserve some attention.

For me at least, Devin Townsend has certainly redeemed himself with "Addicted" as "Ki", released earlier this year was a bit too mellow and pretentious for me. If you like the electro beats or the Industrial sound like me, "Addicted" may be a among the highlights of 2009, not to mention Anneke did a great job here too.

When you blend in Jazz with Metal and have a unique voice found in front woman Agnete Kirkevaag, you get Madder Mortem, among the most atypical bands in Metal. If you haven't tried them before but is feeling adventurous, "Eight Ways" might just be the right fix.

Here's another album that deserves a little bit more attention. Okay, it may not beat the lastest Paradise Lost for the best Gothic Album of the year (or I might change my mind after a few more spins), but I do feel compelled to at least write a few lines about this one to do it some justice. Granted it's female fronted, but by no means it is those sweet honeyed female vocals or operatic style one may expect, but one that

Listening to "When Time Fades..." reminds me of Zero Hour's "Dark Deceiver", but in a good way rather than a rip-off way. I'm reminded of that album because of the musical complexity, layers of sounds, skilful musicianship and how I only start to get into the album on my third spin. Definitely a classy Prog Metal album from last year that has been overlooked by the majority.
