Mastodon is really a one-of-a-kind band, though I can't say it's exactly my cup of tea. This album is a concept album and continues with the elemental themes as with it's preceding albums. This time, it's meant to be the fifth element Ether. With such an intangible theme, Mastodon pulls off a lighter album, yet still managing to remain inten

Lunatica's music has always been pretty easy to get into and so is their latest album. Symphonic elements are less compared to their last album "The Edge Of Infinity", but the song writing and vocal performance of the band has definitely improved.

Not many people talk about Black Sun Aeon, which is not surprising as this is their first full length studio album, though the band members are definitely not new to the scene. It was originally referred to a super group consisting of members of Amorphis, Before the Dawn, Moonsorrow, Moonspell, Sinamore and Sotajumala,

Before you complain about the boring band logo, check out their music, especially if you like bands such as Scar Symmetry or Mercenary. There's the occasional female vocals in this album too.

Purists may disagree, though I really like the idea of mixing some clean vocals into Melodic Death Metal, and Before the Dawn does a very good job about it, plus blending in some Gothic sound into their music too.

As depicted by the cover art, the lastest output by the Faroese band is all about Vikings battling Christianity. As usual, you'll feel like grabbed by the hair to join their quest while listening to them.

After reading a lot of positive comments on this release, I decided to give this French metal band a go too. As a fairly regular listener of Progressive Metal, I was not disappointed and was even caught by surprise by many moments. The styles are really varied, with traditional sounds as well as space-like keyboard driven moments. Vocals can range from death to soothing female ones or weird robotic ones. <

Both the cover and album title is screaming out loud the band's musical/lyrical themes are based on Tolkien's Lord Of The Rings. If you like ethereal female vocals with some a breath of fresh air in your Symphonic Metal, this is the deal.

To me, Battlelore's stand out point is the dreamy female vocals. However, the rest of the band, including the harsh vocals that gives the music a sharper edge all do a professional job as well, combining with the interesting blend of folk ambiences, Evernight is widely considered as Battlelore's more accomplished works (till 2008 anyway as The Last Alliance is even better).

As this released has received a faqir amount of attention of late, I decided to check it out too. Though not a fan of the genre myself, I still quite like the album. I admit it's a not easy to digest (not a bad thing really), but I'm sure it will grow on me after a few more spins. What I like most is probably the intricate structures in the song writing.

Genre: Industrial Dance Metal Bit Rate: 320
KMFDM plays a brand of dancy industrial metal which easily sets them apart from others. Though Industrial/Electronic influences are not usually welcomed among the metal scene, so if you are open minded about such things, then give it a shot, otherwise try something else.

This is the last (and the only one that I own) album featuring ex Yngwie Malmsteen singer Jeff Scott Soto. He's not a bad singer in anyways, but somehow I prefer current singer Johnny Gioeli. However, it's still good music and this kind of thing is always subject to personal tastes ;)

My personal favourite among all the Axel Rudi Pell albums as most of the songs here a quite fast paced when comparing the rest of the albums in Axel Rudi Pell's discography. However, the 12 minute ballad "The Clown Is Dead" is a cool listen as well as it just gets stuck in my head so easily.

Gothmog is a fictional character in Tolkein's Middle Earth series, though which Gothmog the band is referring to I don't know... (there are 2 of them, one of them was leader of the Balrogs and the other leader of the Nazguls) Anyway, these guys play Melodic Black Metal, though pure fans of the Black Metal genre may not like it as it does have some cool guitar solo moments, though I am fine with it myself.

As the group's 7th album, they don't do anything absolutely ground breaking, but continue on playing what they do best - European style Power Metal. Given this release has received quite a bit of attention of late, I checked it out as I was new to this band, but those who are familiar with Dimmu Borgir's guitarist Thomas Rune "Galder" Andersen would probably know his versatily and his one man band of a side project that plays Melodic Black Metal with slight symphonic touches.

Despite Forsaken being a Doom Metal, their music is somehow also upbeat in a way, though they still have the usual downbeat moments and this makes them rather unique. Personally, I feel the song writing, performance (as in vocals, solos, riffs etc) and originality of the album should receive top scores and is my favourite Doom metal album.

Genre: Power Heavy Metal Bit Rate: 320
Once again, I'll go on about Axel Rudi Pell is under-rated and his kind of power metal is Heavy in style with Hard Rocky feel to it. It's nothing new or strikingly original, but the formula works and they serve well. Great for easy listening even for no-brainer moments (not saying the music is not technical though!) when you just want to chill. It's been said that this is the slowest album among the band's discograph

Axel Rudi Pell is not well known, but I think they should deserve a lot more attention, so I hope this series of uploads over the next few days of his works can change things around! Axel Rudi Pell is a bit of a guitar wizard, not that he plays really pretentious prog like style, but you can definitely see the skill he shows and the rest of the band plays really solid music as well, while vocalist Johnny Gioeli inter

With the extensive use of symphonic elements, Fairyland's music sounds probably as epic as it can get in metal without losing it's power.
