For My Pain... is a super group that consists of members from Nightwish, Eternal Tears Of Sorrow, Charon and Reflexion. With such a strong lineup of musicians, their brand of Finnish Gothic Metal definitely don't disappoint and leaves you asking for more.

Personally not a fan of Five Finger Death Punch, especially after listening to "The Way Of The Fist" and I only checked them out in the first place because at that time I just recently discovered the other Nu Metal band featured in this blog - Disturbed. Nothing close really, but I know they are popular, so maybe when I am very free one day I shall come back to them. For now I'll let it rest.

Relentless speed and heaviness would be the crux of Neaera's lastest offering "Omnicide - Creation Unleashed". Your long search for something straight forward and face-smashing melodic death metal is over.

This album has been released for around 4 years now, so the current line up of the band is almost completely different. I don't know whether this band is still planning on any new works soon, but this being their debut and only studio record is sure a classy one. The song writing is truely memorable while the male/female duets simply tops things up.

Genre: Gothic Doom Metal Bit Rate: 320
Meant to be released in December in the year, the album was already leaked in June... Anyway, pretty typical female fronted Gothic band with the harsher male lines. The thing that got my attention (the vocals are enjoyable really) is the expressive keyboards and string playing being incorporated into their music.

Genre: Folk Influenced Melodic Death Metal Bit Rate: 320
It seems to be a trend to add folk elements into metal music these days, so Falchion is no pioneer really, but still sounds great and not too common. So if you are into this kind of fusion and have not heard of Falchion, it's time to find out more about them.

Already fairly famous in the Progressive scene in Poland, Riverside has a lot to live up to since the success of "Out Of Myself" and "Second Life Syndrome". "Rapid Eye Movement", released in 2007 was a bit of a let down as it sounded a bit too similar to "Second Life Syndrome", so "Anno Domini High Definition" breaks the moulde and dishes out a new sound. Convincing? Hell sure it convinced me!

The music isn't bad and the muscians' performance is honest, though at the end of the day, the whole album comes out is okay but forgettable as it lacks originality in the already overcrowded scene. Still, if you are a fan of hot female fronted Gothic Metal (yes, she's hot and her voice is actually good), "Faith" has it's moments of amusements.

With a very emotive and varied clean vocal performance, catchy but progressive melodies of the keyboards plus the overall dark atmosphere it conjures, "The Unseen" would definitely satisify those who like Progressive Power Metal that is not cheesey and unqiue.

Raven has been around for a long time, but not too well known, I think. Listening to the album, the feeling I keep getting is classic and old schoolness. If you like Heavy Metal in it's classical form, Raven's latest release would probably be able to satisfy.

I have not heard of Trail Of Tear's previous work before, so I cannot make any comparisons with their older material, but I can say I was really surprised when I first listened to the album. I was expecting plenty of mid-paced music with orchestrations, some grunts or low growls mixed with really high floaty female vocals. Instead, I was almost blown away with dark crunchy riffs and pretty fast paced Gothic Metal. The agr

As a fan of the Finnish band Tarot, I try to follow what the musicians of the band are up to and found out about Marenne which sees Zachary Hietala and Janne Tolsa from Tarot form a new band with bassist Jukka Jylli and female singer Marenne. Vocals are definitely a strong point in this album, but the melodies and pretty good too. Fans of female fronted acts would most certainly find it enjoyable.

Gothic Metal from Finland is not something I listen to often, but I gave "Painstained" a try anyway as I quite enjoyed For My Pain...'s "Fallen". I was not terribly floored in anyway though, so perhaps it's not exactly my type, but I'm sure Entwine is popular for a reason.

The Answer is quite big at the moment, having the honour of being the opening act for legends AC/DC. Personally, I prefer Koritni when comparing hard rock releases of the year, nevertheless, "Everyday Demons" is a strong Hard Rock release.

Be'lakor is a wonderful band from Australia that does not play the typical quick paced Melodic Metal. Though the tendancy to be on the slow side, they keep churning out surprising melodies especially with their masterful and expressive keyboards which distinguishes them apart from others. The only Melodic Death Metal release this year that has impressed me so far.

Guitarist on "A Virgin And A Whore" Antti Kokko left ETOS to concentrate his efforts on Kalmah and we see a change of musical direction here which is also contributed by the addition of Janne Tolsa, the band's new keyboardist that also plays in Tarot. With a more Symphonic approach, Tony Kakko from Sonata Arctica and Marco Hietala of Tarot and Nightwish as back vocalist, "Before the Bleeding Sun" sounds r

Regarded by many as ETOS's pinnacle, I cannot agree more. Despite listening it for the first time 8 years after it's release, I was still quite blown away by the 2001 ETOS and the keyboards really stood out. As much as I enjoyed later releases "Before The Bleeding Sun" and "Children Of The Dark Waters", "A Virgin And A Whore" is definitely my favourite among the three.

Having really enjoyed DGM's 09' album "FrAme", I decided to find out more about the band and acquired a "Different Shapes", their 07' release which also features a different lead singer called Titta Tani who is at least as good as the current one. The rest of the lineup is the same as the 2009 lineup, so musically speaking it's still the DGM sound that I am familiar with that is quite "Power"-like and I'd say it's a

If you like the slow and heavy sound of Stoner Metal and have not heard of Acid King or their album "III" before, this just may be your discovery. Being a female fronted band, it is still totally incomparable to bands such as Nightwish, Tristianna or After Forever as the music is completely different with slow tempo structures, low-tuned and distorted guitar riffs.

Epica probably needs no introduction especially to female fronted Symphonic/Gothic Metal fans. If you still don't know about Epica and lead singer Simone Simons, you'd better find out more about them if Tarja era nightwish is your thing. Simone's classically trained mezzo-soprano voice mixed with Mark Jansen's growls and songwriting and you get Epica.
